As some of you might already know, I am off in a couple of months to Nepal to work on a Volunteer Project with a NGO for 3-4 months. The project is based around a small village called Nangi. Its a pretty rural mountainous area(village is at 7400 feet) with no access to Roads and a 9 hour hike is the fastest way to get there (Yup I might spend 3 months just getting there :-) . I will be working in conjunction with a Canadian NGO who help run a School for the children of this village and the surrounding villages. They also help the Village with variety of issues from health, Micro-economics, agriculture etc.. More information can be found on http://www.himanchal.org/index.html. I will be spending about 3 months working there helping with what I can, but will be primarily involved in teaching the villagers and students on how to use computers, getting them connected to the world of the Internet so that they can use it to their benefit. I will also be involved in trying to get Wireless connectivity setup between villages and the ISP in the major town. All this requires resources like Wireless equipment, computers, network equipment, Educational Books etc. The list could be endless...
As funding is priceless for such remote areas, and they constantly need money to buy equipment for the School & Village. The only way they develop further is through volunteers coming down and providing them their service and getting useful assets. This is where all of YOU come in :-) I am sure you probably already give money to charities time n again and If you start contributing to every charity in the world you will be left on the streets yourself, so there are no hard feelings if you skip this one. The only good thing about this contribution would be that I can tell you exactly where the money went, since I would be buying and setting up things myself. I can even send you pictures of all the work being done, and regular updates on my progress. :-) And if you decide to visit Nepal, you can see your contribution in action.
Since the entire trip is Voluntary (start to finish) I am limited in my personal contribution in terms of spending too much buying equipment for thes chool/village, so any contribution and I mean ANY (be it $1) will be much appreciated. If you are keen on contributing, just click on the Orange 'Chipin' Button below. You will have to create a Paypal account if you don't already have one, just takes a minute or two and makes it secure when giving credit card details.
